Grab your comfiest sweater and a flavorful cup of hot coca, John Legend’s new album, Darkness and Light, is sure to keep you warm this winter. The G.O.O.D. Music artist polished & delivered some eye popping vocals in this album. The album is dedicated directly to his wife, Chrissy Teigen, their 7-month-old daughter, Luna, the ongoing social and political unrest revolving around this country, and love!
Unlike his previous works, “Love in the Future” (2013) and “Evolver” (2008), this album embodies the simpler sounds on a deeper, organic tune; expressing his true feelings. “They say sing what you know. But I’ve sung what they want” (I Know Better, Darkness and Light).
Although there aren’t many features in this album, the message is certainly delivered with the few. Among the few artists featured are Chance the Rapper in “Penthouse”, Miguel on “Overload”, and finally Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes in “Darkness and Light”.
This album is like the title of the album suggest: If all else fails–even in the darkest of times–light will prevail. Nearing the tail end of the album of melodic sounds, John Legend reassures that we should never give us and keep “chasing the fading star” (Marching Into The Dark, Darkness and Light).
